Modern Translation
I crossed over while gazing at Mt. Tatsuta. The cherry blossoms will surely all have fallen, by the time I return.
History of the Poem
Written by Otomo no Yakamochi on the 17th day of February in the 7th year of the Tenpyo-Shoho era (or April 6th, 755, according to the Gregorian calendar). At the time, Yakamochi, the poet, was serving as a military commander (Junior Assistant in the Ministry of War), and he would often travel back and forth to Naniwa as his duties required him to inspect the soldiers garrisoned in the Chikushi area (present-day Fukuoka Prefecture). This poem describes his feelings as he gazed at the cherry blossoms on Mt. Tatsuta on his way toward Naniwa. Poems relating to soldiers garrisoned in Kyushu that appear in Man’yoshu (“Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves”), the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry, were included due to the fact thatYakamochi, a major poet, was also a military commander.

這是天平勝寶七年（755年）2月27日（西曆4月6日）大伴家持的作品。當時，家持擔任兵部少輔一職，為了履行檢查築紫城駐防情況的職責，經常往來於難波之間。所以這是一首到難波時欣賞龍田山櫻花後的吟詠之作。萬葉集中保存的駐防人員的歌作是因家持時任兵部少輔的關係，也一並收錄此折。

노래의배경
천평승보칠년(天平勝宝七年: 서기 755년) 이월 이십칠일 (양력4월 6일)오토모노야카모치(大伴家持)의작품.그당시야카모치(家持)는병부소보(兵部少輔)라는관직에 있었으며, 치쿠시(筑紫)에 파견되는변방전사들을 검교하는 직무를 위하여 나니와(難波)에 오간적이 있었다. 이 노래는 나니와(難波)에 가는 길에 다츠타산(龍田山)의 벚꽃을 보며 읊은 작품이다.만엽집에남아 있는변방전사의노래는야카모치(家持)가병부소보를 한 인연으로채집된 것이다.
